20 English Mistakes Almost Every Marathi Speaker Makes

The same twenty errors come up in nearly every first class. Fix these and you sound noticeably better immediately.

After fifteen years of first classes, the pattern is very predictable. These twenty mistakes come from translating Marathi structure directly into English — which is a smart instinct that happens to be wrong.

1. "I am having a car"

Possession does not take the continuous form. Say I have a car.

2. "Yesterday I have gone"

A finished past action with a time word takes simple past: Yesterday I went.

3. "Discuss about"

Discuss already contains "about". Say discuss the plan.

The rest are covered in the Foundation course, with drills so they stop being knowledge and start being habit.

Reading is a good start. Speaking is the point.
